Robo-Advisor Questionnaire

1. Introduction

The Robo-Advisor Questionnaire is a tool used by the Robo-Advisory system to assess and understand your risk tolerance and investment preferences. The aim is to create your risk profile by further understanding your risk capacity and tolerance, and personalized investment preferences, thereby providing customized investment recommendations.

2. Difference between the Robo-Advisor Questionnaire and the Investor Risk Tolerance Assessment

The Investor Risk Tolerance Assessment aims to understand the investor's risk tolerance to help them choose suitable financial products or services that match their risk tolerance level.

In contrast, the Robo-Advisor Questionnaire is designed to further evaluate your risk tolerance specifically within the domain of Robo-Advisor investment services and products involved. This includes assessing your willingness to engage in high-risk investments and your investment preferences within this specialized area. The result of your Investor Risk Tolerance Assessment will be shown on the result page of the Robo-Advisor Questionnaire as "Your overall risk capacity level at Futu".

The Robo-Advisor risk profile can be viewed as a subset of your overall risk tolerance, focusing specifically on your risk tolerance and investment preferences within the domain of Robo-Advisor investment services. Thus, the result of your Robo-Advisor Questionnaire is constrained by your overall risk tolerance. This means that your Robo-Advisor risk tolerance level will be lower or equal to your overall risk tolerance level. For example, if your Investor Risk Tolerance Assessment result is "Balanced (3)", the upper limit of your Robo-Advisor risk profile will also be "Balanced". Products with a risk rating higher than R3 will not be recommended.

3. Redoing the Robo-Advisor Questionnaire

  • Your risk tolerance may change with market conditions and personal circumstances.

  • Therefore, it is recommended that you take the Investor Risk Tolerance Assessment and the Robo-Advisor Questionnaire regularly to receive investment advice that matches your current risk tolerance and willingness to engage in risky investments.

  • Redoing the Investor Risk Tolerance Assessment or updating account information will not update your Robo-Advisor Questionnaire result. If you wish to modify your answers to receive the latest investment recommendations, please go to the Wealth tab and tap the “Robo-advisor” icon to redo the questionnaire.

4. About the Robo-Advisor Questionnaire Result

4.1 Robo-Advisor risk profile

  • The Robo-Advisor risk profile refers to your risk tolerance and willingness to engage in high-risk investments in the context of Robo-Advisor investment services and the investment products recommended by the services based on your existing Investor Risk Tolerance Assessment result.

  • The evaluation mechanism of the Robo-Advisor Questionnaire is as follows: The questionnaire assigns scores to each question based on multiple indicators of the investor's risk tolerance and willingness to invest in high-risk products recommended by the advisor. These scores are aggregated to get a total score, which preliminarily categorizes the client's Robo-Advisor risk profile level. Higher scores indicate higher risk profile levels, reflecting stronger risk tolerance and willingness to take on risk. The questionnaire also considers key upper-limit risk tolerance indicators, such as the identification of vulnerable customers, and uses the client's Investor Risk Tolerance Assessment result as a cap to get a comprehensive result. The result determines which of the following five Robo-Advisor risk profiles the client belongs to: Conservative, Moderate, Balanced, Growth, and Aggressive.

  • For the investment products and recommendations involved in Robo-Advisor investment services, the five risk profiles represent:

    • Conservative: You can accept slight risks and price fluctuations, with low risk tolerance. Your primary objective is capital preservation, and you have a low willingness to engage in high-risk investments.

    • Moderate: You can accept low risks and price fluctuations, with medium-to-low risk tolerance. You prioritize strict loss control and stable returns over profits, and you have a medium-to-low willingness to engage in high-risk investments.

    • Balanced: You can accept moderate risks and price fluctuations, with medium risk tolerance. You aim for average market returns and are willing to bear average market losses, and you have a medium willingness to engage in high-risk investments.

    • Growth: You can accept medium-to-high risks and price fluctuations, with medium-to-high risk tolerance. You are more inclined to pursue profits rather than stability, and you have a medium-to-high willingness to engage in high-risk investments.

    • Aggressive: You can accept high risks and price fluctuations, with high risk tolerance. You are willing to bear above-average market losses to pursue above-average market returns and asset growth, and you have a high willingness to engage in high-risk investments.

4.2 More about the assessment result

  • Max Loss Acceptable: refers to the estimated maximum loss you are willing to accept based on the result of your Robo-Advisor Questionnaire and your answers to questions related to investment goals and simulated investment.
