    Today's P/L and Yesterday's P/L

    1. Today's P/L

Definition: the cumulative profit and loss from the close of the previous trading day to the present

    Formula:

    Today's P/L of a Position = (Today's Market Value - Yesterday's Market Value) + (Today's Selling Value - Today's Buying Value)

Today's Market Value is the real-time market value of the position; Yesterday's Market Value is the previous closing price for the regular trading hours multiplied by yesterday’s position size.

Today's P/L of an Account = Sum of Today's P/L of All Positions

    Today's P/L cutoff time

    Stock Market

    Cutoff Time

    United States

If overnight price is not used: 12:00 AM ET

If overnight price is used: 8:00 PM ET

To change this setting, go to Settings > Accounts Page & Positions > US Stock MV and P/L Calculation.

    Other Markets

    12:00 AM local time

E.g. The cutoff time for Hong Kong stock P/L is 12:00 AM HKT.

What happens after the upgrade to a Universal Account:

Today's P/L will be calculated as the sum of the P/L from all market positions.

Your P/L data will be updated at the specified cutoff time.

    Example

Suppose your Today's P/L for the Hong Kong stock market is 100.00 HKD and 100.00 USD for the US stock market at 11:59 PM HKT. At 12:00 AM HKT, your Today's P/L will be updated to 100.00 USD.

    2. Today's P/L%

    Formula: Today's P/L% = Today's P/L / (Starting Net Assets + Floating Net Flow Peak)

Note: If you have a single-currency account that has enabled consolidated buying power, its Starting Net Assets and Floating Net Flow Peak shall be from all your accounts that have enabled consolidated buying power.

    Explanation:

    1) Starting Net Assets

Assets include cash and positions. The definitions of Starting for different kinds of accounts are as follows:

    US Account

Overnight price not used: 12:00 a.m. ET

    (Daylight Saving Time: 12:00 p.m. (T+1) CST; Standard Time: 1:00 p.m. (T+1) CST)

Overnight price used: 8:00 p.m. ET

    (Daylight Saving Time: 8:00 a.m. (T+1) CST;

    Standard Time: 9:00 a.m. (T+1) CST)

    Hong Kong/A-Shares Account

    9:00 a.m. CST

    Universal Account

    12:00 a.m. CST

    2) Floating Net Flow Peak

It means the peak value of cash changes during the calculation period, and will be 0 if the peak value is less than 0. Cash changes may be due to deposits and withdrawals, funds transfers, currency exchange, position transfers, subscription to or redemption of funds, bond trading, card/coupon deposits, IPO, and ESOP funds transfers. The calculation periods for different kinds of accounts are as follows:

    US Account

    Overnight price not used: 12:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m. (T+1) ET

    Overnight price used: 12:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m. (T+1) ET

    (Daylight Saving Time: 12:00 p.m. – 12:00 p.m. (T+1) CST; Standard Time: 1:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. (T+1) CST)

    Hong Kong/A-Shares Account

    9:00 a.m. – 4:10 p.m. CST

    Universal Account

    12:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m. (T+1) CST

    Examples:

Example 1: If Today's P/L is 1,000, Starting Net Assets are 20,000, and 10,000 is withdrawn, then Floating Net Flow Peak will be 0.
    Today's P/L% = 1000/(20000+0) = 5.00%

Example 2: If Today's P/L is 1,000, Starting Net Assets are 20,000, and 20,000 is deposited, then Floating Net Flow Peak will be 20,000.
    Today's P/L% = 1000/(20000+20000) = 2.50%

Example 3: If Today’s P/L is 1,000, Starting Net Assets are 20,000, 20,000 is deposited first, and then 10,000 is withdrawn, then Floating Net Flow Peak will be 20,000.
    Today's P/L% = 1000/(20000+20000) = 2.50%

Example 4: If Today's P/L is 1,000, Starting Net Assets are 20,000, 10,000 is withdrawn, and then 20,000 is deposited, then Floating Net Flow Peak will be 10,000.
    Today's P/L% = 1000/(20000+10000) = 3.33%

    3. Yesterday's P/L

Definition: the cumulative profit and loss realized for the previous trading day

Formula: Yesterday's P/L = (Yesterday's Market Value - Market Value for the Day before Yesterday) + (Yesterday's Selling Value - Yesterday's Buying Value)

Explanation: Yesterday's Market Value is the closing price for the regular trading hours of yesterday multiplied by the position size on yesterday; Market Value for the Day Before Yesterday is the closing price for the regular trading hours of the day before yesterday multiplied by the position size on the day before yesterday

Note: Yesterday's P/L is displayed only if you use the overnight price and only from 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM ET
