FAQS

1. How can I open a margin trading account?

If you're new to Futu, you can apply for a margin trading account by selecting it as your account type during the account opening process in the Futubull app.

Existing cash account holders can upgrade by selecting their cash account under the "Accounts" tab, tapping "Upgrade Now," and submitting the upgrade request.

The upgrade is expected to be processed within one business day.

2. How is the margin interest rate determined?

Interest rates for margin trading depend on the specific market. The annual interest rate for Hong Kong stocks is 6.8%, it's 4.8% for US stocks, 8.8% for A-shares, and 2.8% for Japanese stocks. To learn more, please click here.

The rate for short selling could be different based on the stock involved. For the exact rate, please refer to the system's calculation at the moment you place your order.

3. How can I find which stocks are available for margin trading?

To see the list of stocks that you can trade on margin, simply go to the "Markets" tab in the Futubull app, choose the market you're interested in (HK, US, CN, or JP), and then select the "Margin Trading" feature.

4. Is there any interest charged for margin trades that are closed on the same day?

No, you will not be charged margin interest for a stock that is sold on the same day it was purchased on margin, as long as the proceeds from the sale cover the amount borrowed.

5. Where can I check the margin requirements?

Margin requirements can adjust with market movements. For the most recent margin requirements, please click here.
Risk Alert
The risk of loss in financing a transaction by deposit of collateral is significant. You may sustain losses in excess of your cash and any other assets deposited as collateral with Futu Securities. Market conditions may make it impossible to execute contingent orders, such as "stop-loss" or "stop-limit" orders. You may be called upon at short notice to make additional margin or interest payments. If the required margin or interest payments are not made within the prescribed time, your collateral may be liquidated without your consent. Moreover, you will remain liable for any resulting deficit in your account and interest charged on your account. You should therefore carefully consider whether such a financing arrangement is suitable in light of your own risk tolerance, financial situation, investment experience, investment objectives, investment horizon and investment knowledge.
